Wallet lock down

E-mail Print PDF

I'm going to put myself on a self imposed wallet lock down for a while.  I hope nothing breaks or needs replacing anytime soon!  While I have enough money to put a very nice down payment on the car, it is still going to take a huge bite out of my wallet.  Time to build up the war chest and enjoy the toys I have.  Shouldn't be too hard to do that, but it's the things that we don't have that we often long for isn't it.  Ha ha!

Bad disks

E-mail Print PDF

It's not often that we receive a damaged disk from netflix.com.  In my efforts to watch this disk however, I've received two broken disks in a row!  Will the third time do the trick?  I sure hope so...  Having said that, it's time to end our netflix subscription again.  We just don't watch enough movies to warrant it.  Hopefully a side effect of all this, will be more time to train.  =)

Wet snow

E-mail Print PDF

I had forgotten how much of a pain wet snow can be.  We've been blessed with a pretty mild winter so far.  Today the wet, heavy, snow blower stopping snow came down and has left me hungry and sore.  Gohgohma to the rescue!  Breakfast of champions.

Recovering...

E-mail Print PDF

It's been a rough weekend for us but me especially.  Lets just say that I've had a sensitive stomach for a while now, but boy did it ever make its presence known this weekend.  As such, I'm going to start keeping a food journal.  I'm going to discover just what it is that makes me queezy.  I have a feeling it's a combination of food richness and portion size.  We shall see.  This would make for a great small project for me to make on android...

Cold on a cold and snowy day

E-mail Print PDF

And so our story begins with this little do dad.  A Goodman Furnace Ignitor.  Specifically:

A Norton B1401015 furnace ignitor for a Goodman GMPN080-4 furnace.

See that area on the third bar down where it goes from gray to black to gray?  It seems like there's a crack there right?  That crack has made this part inoperable and thus my house is now quite cold.  It's kind of crazy how this small part could have such huge ramifications on my comfort of life.  Sometime on Wednesday evening it broke.  We awoke to a really cold house.  After some internet searches I tried in vain to get my poor furnace to work.  I didn't know it at the time, but this part was what stood in my way to a warm house.  I cleaned out the blowers, checked to make sure the gas was still working, and checked the circuit breakers.  But nothing worked, so I made a call to get help.  A few hours later they showed up, found the problem super quickly, and wallah!  The house was warm again!

But...  If that were the end of the story, it wouldn't make for a good story.

I noticed that it was getting cold in the house again.  I checked the thermostat and made sure that it was running.  I changed some settings but nothing would cause the warm air I so wanted to come forth from the vents.  So, I went back down to the furnace and looked through my peep hole.  Another single blink code.  With my newly formed knowledge and experience, I took a peek at the ignitor.  Yep...  It was broken.  That white line there is representative of a tiny crack that is keeping me from having a warm house on a dark and snowy night.  The same folks are coming over again to take a look and they have the part in their truck.  But, I'm going to stock up on these parts.

From what I understand, these ignitors are pretty much mix and match for the most part.  If it fits, it'll probably work.  The replacement part was a Source 1 S1-HSI411.  It is the exact same shape and size as the Goodman version and fits perfectly in the keyed holder.  Sadly, if a furnace uses a hot surface ignitor, there's no way to manually light the furnace.  The surface ignitor completes a circuit that allows the electronic gas valve to open.  A total bummer.  So for all you home owners out there, go take a look at your furnace and locate your ignitors.  Figure out how to change them and buy spare parts.  Otherwise, you may end up like me.  Cold and frustrated after burning up so much money.
