Danny's latest project, a HTPC

Instead of getting a RC Heli, I got a computer instead.  The first thing I did was connect it to my TV.  And then load up My Movies...  So begins Danny's adventures with a Home Theatre PC.

My Movies 2 is a little program that hooks up to Media Center Edition windows OS's.  It allows you to load up DVD's as ISO files and play any of them with the touch of a remote.  All within the Media Center interface.  So far, I've loaded over 30 DVD's.  This feels like the day I got my iPod.  All of a sudden I wasn't swapping CD's anymore, and instead just clicking buttons.

I've been meaning to do this for years.  Though I simply never got around to it.  There was always something keeping me from doing it.  One of the largest hurdles was the cost of storage, but with it's ever plummeting price.  Well, that's not as a big deal as it once was.  But of course, storage is still a hurdle.  I've already exhausted over 200GB on just 30 DVD's.  And I've got a whole bunch more to go through, I think another 270!

It's definitely time to go shopping for some hard drives...  But then that brings another issue to the fore.  How should I manage the situation of a home file server?  Having dismantled my original file server, I find myself full circle.  A good problem to have.  Part of me feels I should use a turn key solution like a NAS, or maybe the HP Home Server product.  Or maybe I'll use this computer as a file server?  questions questions...  Anyone got any comments?
